September 25, 2012 – A Trash Cleaning program has been conducted yesterday by the members of Global Communication Center of Grameen Communications, visiting Chhaygaon, Shariatpur at the occasion of Portable Health Clinic Project. The waste collection and dumping activities were held at the largest local market named ‘Bangla Bazar’ and the Union Parishad compound around 12:30 in the afternoon. Led by Dr. Kazi Rafiqul Islam Maruf (Consultant, GCC), the team was accompanied by local government representatives including the Chhaygaon Union Parishad Chairman and UP members, members of the Bazar Committee, the teachers and students of local primary and secondary schools and the villagers while carrying out the activity. The laudable effort taken by the members drew enormous response among the villagers and a total of about 150 people took part in the program.
After completion of the clean-up program 10 dustbins have been donated for the Bazar compound on behalf of GCC and 10 shop-owners have been given responsibility to ensure proper utilization, maintenance and preservation of the bins. The goal behind having this kind of activities is to raise awareness about environmental hygiene among villagers and promote improved waste management practices. |
